Feature Requests

Feel free to post them here. I've implemented about 70% of the feedback I've gotten, most of it is subtle. There are a few things I simply (and unfortunately) cannot change.

Post your feature requests and I will take a look!

Things already in the works:

  • I removed the collapse/expand feature from profile favorites temporarily as it was somewhat clumsy. I will be redoing this to make it more user friendly.

If you follow a User, you'd basically see a 'feed' of all their favorited/submitted resources? That shouldn't be too hard

Your second request shouldn't be too hard either.

That pretty much goes hand in hand with the profile page which I need to redo completely to support more features. Right now it's getting a bit too much on the same screen.

Also making something like buckets. Say for instance, I was working on a project and I wanted to gather a list of resources needed specifically, I could store a list of selected favourites in a bucket.

It would help categorize favourites in a more organized fashion. Else there would be a long and winded list. I know the tags help filter out submissions, but you can never ask for too much control.

Added:

  • on the new resource page, when it gives you similar URL's on pineapple, currently it's only the external link, which doesn't allow you to really favorite the resource on the site without searching for it. I'm adding a link directly to the resource on pineapple so you can favorite/comment
  • The ability to do an 'advanced' search based on title, description, etc.

Thanks. Looks like you are fast to add new features. Is this due to the beauty of Ruby on Rails?

Also, can we have like a leaderboard showing users with the most rep?

Ruby on rails has something to do with it, yes. Another part of it is I actually really care what people have to say. I have fought too long learning when I really would have loved to have a resource like this, so I want to help people that were in the same position I was in.

My goal isn't to just be an 'aggregator', but more so a massive database that in a year or so will have thousands of searchable resources all in one spot, that might be buried too deep in google to find easily.

I've already got 2-3 of those features in that list taken care of, gonna deploy it tomorrow :)

And yes, I like the idea of top users. I will add that.

Awesome, love your attitude. I will try and help promote this place, I'm pretty sure it will be more active eventually. Especially when Google gives it proper placement in the serps! This is now a mirror to my ever expanding list of webdev related bookmarks.

Most definitely :) I made it public... a few weeks ago? and I already have gotten 100k+ visitors. After looking at the stats the retention rate is very high (large amount of returning visitors). I'm very happy about that..

I'm also gaining google traction very rapidly. i went from 0 SERP results per day and now I'm at about 75-100. I'm working quite hard to get everything in place, and so far it's far exceeded my expectations given the timeframe.

I expect within a few months i will have a nice community and the ball will be rolling much faster

I would love to claim submissions made anonymously before I decided to create an account. I was weary at first to sign up for something, but now regret submissions not being tied to my account.

Just to let everyone know I'm now working on a search feature, that should fix a lot of the problems of people 'seeing that one thing' a long time ago but not being able to find it. That's most important on my list of what's next.

If they all originate from Mike Does Web, I'll just assign them to your username. Sound good?

Can we get the names of threads in the sidebar when in single thread view mode. For instance, when you view this discussion, the sidebar is blank.

Sure. I'll add it in. I agree, it would be nicer not to have to hit discussion first.

Also maybe use this for it too, because it gets stuck up at the top on long threads like this.

Just wanted to let everyone know text-based search (in addition to tags) is almost complete :)

Just commenting on the insane complexity of search. I find this quite fascinating, and it's not something I've ever really looked at in depth before... http://snowball.tartarus.org/texts/introduction.html

Okay, as it turns out, I will be making text-based search the default instead of by tags... This is insanely accurate...

Still working on some tweaks for search. Analyzers and tokenizers can be tricky, thanks for being patient :)

Full text search has been implemented... I am working on tweaking the search algorithm to better parse URL's, but for the most part its pretty great :)

Examples: A color scheme generator, email marketing software, usability heat maps, css3 code generators, a downloadable png compressor.

Assets are downloadable files used -in- your projects, usually as code, textures, or images.

Examples: a jquery sticky menu, photoshop brushes, background textures, mvc frameworks, twitter bootstrap, 960 grid system.
