I'm not sure how much zen coding has changed over the years (I havent watched the video), but Sparkup seems to have a lot of missing features.

Like I said things could be different now but zen coding used to only go one way, like div.hello>div#world whereas sparkup can go back up the chain div.hello>div#world<h3

Edit: I looked it up and they have added that functionality now with the ^ operator for Emmet toolkit. I suppose it might be time to switch back as that is more maintained than sparkup.
