For a free alternative, try rack-livereload + guard-livereload. I have a demo project (using serve) at https://github.com/bomberstudios/serve-livereload and it works beautifully.

I'm using that (rack-livereload) now with middleman... makes mobile web sooooo much nicer to develop on. FTW.

I also have the gui, I find that easier to use when you want to constantly watch several static folders. However, now that i'm using Middleman and Yeoman, I don't really fire it up that much.
